Chinese Universities Set New Rules for Using AI in Homework ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿค–

Hey there! Have you ever used a computer program to help with your homework? In China, many students are using super-smart computer programs called AI (Artificial Intelligence) to help with their schoolwork. But some are using it a bit too much! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

A recent survey found that almost 60% of university students and teachers in China use AI tools every day or a few times a week. That’s a lot! Some students are even copying and pasting everything the AI writes for them. But guess what? That’s not okay. It’s like letting a robot do your homework for you!

To make sure students are actually learning, universities in China are setting up new rules. For example, Fudan University says students can’t use AI for things like designing experiments, collecting data, making images, or writing their big papers called theses. If they break the rules, they might fail the class or have trouble getting their degrees. Yikes! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Another school, Tianjin University of Science and Technology, is checking how much AI content is in students’ papers. They say no more than 40% can be from AI. They’re using special programs to detect if AI wrote the content.

But it’s not just about catching cheaters. Experts say that teachers should help students learn how to use AI in a smart way. Huang Yating, a researcher at Zhejiang University’s School of Education, thinks homework should be about big ideas and creative thinkingโ€”things AI can’t easily do. She says, “Professors should design assignments that AI cannot easily replicate and encourage collaboration with AI rather than full reliance on it.”

So, what does this mean for you? If you’re using AI tools, remember to use them to learn and not to cheat. It’s okay to get a little help, but your ideas matter most! ๐Ÿ’ก
