Hey travelers! ✈️ Imagine waiting for your flight and exploring ancient treasures at the same time! Well, now you can at Xi’an Xianyang International Airport in China. 🏯
During the airport’s expansion between June 2020 and October 2022, archaeologists found over 22,000 amazing artifacts! That’s like finding hidden treasure! 🏺 These include ancient pottery, ash pits, trenches, ancient roads, and even over 4,000 tombs. 😮
On February 20, 2024, the airport opened Terminal 5, and with it, the Western Airport Museum—the world’s first-ever museum inside an airport! 🌍 This means you can explore thousands of years of history without leaving the airport.
The museum is pretty big—about 6,400 square meters (that’s like 24 tennis courts!). 🎾 It showcases artifacts found during the airport’s expansion and cool archaeological finds from around Xi’an, a city known for its rich history.
One of the coolest parts is an 88-square-meter exhibition space where they show a special artifact from Shaanxi’s cultural heritage collection every six months. That means there will always be something new to see! 🧐
The Western Airport Museum opens to everyone on February 26, but you can start reserving your spot from February 23. If you’re flying through Xi’an, make sure to check it out and add a little adventure to your journey! 🛫✨
