Why Vietnamese Workers Are Worried About New US Tariffs

Why Are Vietnamese Workers Worried About New Tariffs?

Hey there! Have you ever heard of tariffs? 📚 Don’t worry if you haven’t! Tariffs are like extra taxes that countries put on things they buy from other countries. Recently, on February 10th, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, decided to put a 25% tariff on all steel and aluminum that the US brings in from other places. That’s a big deal! 😮

This means that when American companies buy steel and aluminum from other countries, they have to pay extra money. This decision has made people all over the world pay attention and talk about it.

In Vietnam, many people work in factories making steel and aluminum. CGTN Stringer talked to some of these workers to see how they feel. They told us that these new tariffs might make it harder for them to sell their products to the US. If it’s harder to sell, they might not make as much money, and that can be really tough for them and their families.

Some workers are worried that if countries start putting tariffs on each other’s goods (that’s what “reciprocal tariffs” means), it could become even more challenging. Imagine if you and your friend started charging each other extra every time you traded toys! It might make trading less fun, right?

Let’s hope that countries can find a way to work together so that everyone can keep trading and working happily! 🌏🤝
