Hey everyone! 🌍 Let’s talk about something important happening in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (you can say “DRC” for short). Recently, there’s been a lot of fighting in and around Goma, a big city in the eastern part of the country.
The World Health Organization (that’s the WHO 🏥) said that over 2,000 people have been hurt because of the fighting. Sadly, 45 people have died. 😔 These numbers come from reports they’ve received from the area.
The WHO is worried because when people have to leave their homes because of fighting (we call that “displacement”), it can make it easier for diseases to spread. Some of the diseases they’re concerned about are cholera, measles, and mpox.
Wait, what’s mpox? 🤔 It’s a disease that’s similar to smallpox but usually less severe. It can cause fever, a rash, and other symptoms. It’s important to stop it from spreading.
The WHO is working hard to help the people in the DRC. They’re providing medical care and trying to prevent these diseases from spreading. Let’s hope things get better soon! 💙
